Mickey joined Gilbert LLP as an associate in August 2010.  His practice includes representing corporate clients in both federal and state courts in complex litigation involving insurance coverage and other commercial disputes.

Recent matters at Gilbert LLP include:

  • representing private individuals suing a major insurance company on behalf of the federal government for actions relating to the insurer’s claims-handling procedures following Hurricane Katrina;
  • representing a corporation seeking to recover a multimillion dollar civil judgment against several foreign entities in one of the largest individual copyright infringement verdicts in U.S. history;
  • representing a real estate developer in litigation arising from a contract dispute with a local government;
  • representing a major auto parts manufacturer over insurance coverage for bodily injury claims; and
  • negotiations on behalf of a 524(g) trust for coverage of mass tort and property damage claims.

Prior to joining Gilbert LLP, Mickey was an associate in the litigation department at Simpson Thacher and Bartlett LLP from 2007-2009, where he represented a sovereign in a bilateral investment treaty arbitration against a large investment bank that culminated in a favorable settlement for the client.  From August 2009 – August 2010, he was a Simpson Thacher Public Service Fellow at the Victory Fund, where he served as Assistant General Counsel and assisted in their successful effort to increase the number of openly lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender persons in appointed positions in the executive branch of the federal government.

Mickey continues his active pro bono practice at Gilbert, advising a local, student-run enterprise that assists local homeowners and businesses interested in generating a portion of their electric consumption through solar power.  Working with other attorneys at the firm, he drafted a brief on behalf of several national civil rights and bar organizations in Log Cabin Republicans v. United States of America, urging the 9th Circuit to uphold the ruling that the military's "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" policy is unconstitutional.  Past pro bono work includes representation of death row inmates in Connecticut and Missouri and filing a brief on behalf of book publishers in the reargument before the Supreme Court of Citizens United v. Federal Election Commission.
