Andrea’s practice includes complex litigation, class actions, and dispute resolution. She handles a variety of civil matters, including disputes over insurance coverage for asbestos, class action claims for breach of contract, and civil rights issues. She has litigated cases in federal and state trial and appellate courts.
Examples of recent matters include:
- Arguing an appeal before the Sixth Circuit on behalf of a Trust concerning an insurer’s duty to defend thousands of underlying cases alleging asbestos-related bodily injury claims asserted against the Trust.
- Representing asbestos bankruptcy trusts in litigation and negotiations to successfully obtain insurance coverage for predecessor companies’ liabilities.
- Negotiating multi-million dollar insurance settlement agreements on behalf of an asbestos trust.
- Representing a class against a major life insurance company accused of charging premiums in violation of the “vanishing premium” clause of the policies and imposing improper expense charges and cost-of-insurance deductions.
- Conducting a risk and insurance audit for a public foundation.
Andrea also has an active pro bono practice. She recently represented a family of deaf individuals in pursuing federal civil rights claims against a hospital, based on allegations that the hospital failed to provide adequate sign language interpreter services to the family members during hospitalizations.
